big expensive yarn.

Twinkle's Big City Knits by designer Wenlan Chia was on my wish list. i saw an article about her tuxedo sweater somewhere (i can't remember where) & i was all set to put it into my project queue.
[i've got a full project queue right now with 3 things on the needles. the first is a sweater that a friend asked me to knit for her & the other 2 are experiments. experiment #1 is going ok, albeit so. painfully. slow. that i am bored out of my mind with it. experiment #2 is not going well. i've been working all 3 of these projects every single day since summer began. it's inevitable that something will complete itself, right? ]

back to Twinkle's-- i got ahold of the book at the library so i could check out the rest of her designs to see if i want to purchase the book. it's definitely worth buying--

--assuming you can afford the cost of the yarn to knit the projects with. everything is knit with super bulky weight yarn which, i discovered, is super expensive.

the price makes perfect sense, but i have an issue with dropping that kind of cash on yarn for ONE project. here's what it would cost to knit the tuxedo sweater & the magic shawl with Cascade Magnum super bulky weight (123 yards/skein priced on the average at $20/skein):

tuxedo jacket 568 yards
5 skeins/$100

magic shawl 400 yards
4 skeins/$80

yes that's probably cheaper than buying the sweater at the store (which is besides the point), but $100 for one sweater is a luxury item in my world.
