Fashion Weeks - Spring/Summer 2011.

I was mostly bored, which is probably why it took me forever to get through it. Maybe it's me. It probably is.

But I eventually found a few things to love in Paris.  (all images: style.com)

Gareth Pugh.  Perfectly sculpted neoprene and aluminum.

I thought there might be a point when I'd be over Asian design elements, but not yet.

Junya Watanabe

Limi Feu

I'm pretty sure Maison Martin Margiela's "vision" didn't have anything to do with interpreting every single fit issue I've been struggling with since I started sewing--

and knitting--

It's just a lucky coincidence that's all.

And I loved a lot about Viktor & Rolf.

The color palette is fantastic.

Everything looks comfortable and effortlessly executed, which means superior design and sewing.

Details (cuffs!)

And rad platforms.

NY Fashion Week: AW10

Chris Benz continues to draw me in.

vintage-inspired print dress, shiny cape

normally, i wouldn't be excited about a sleeveless '80s vest, but i'm a sucker for his wide stripes (remember the drummer's pants from last fall), so- i'm there.

this jacket might have reminded me of 'Members Only', but with a metallic drapey skirt? fine by me.

yes, yes and yes

and this dress, which is nothing short of amazing. i'm already thinking back to all of the '40s draped dress patterns i've seen, wondering if there's some way to adapt one with 3/4 sleeves & added back cowl.

i should be able to whip one of these up easy. you know, like the shirtwaist dress.

completely different style, but I really liked these 2 coats by Derek Lam.
(i'm in desperate need of some coats, which is probably why i'm drawn to them right now.)

here's another fab coat plus plenty of (i'm going to say '30s) glamour from Bibhu Mohapatra, who is going on my watch list

lastly, too many pieces to post from Zero + Maria Cornejo

the trousers.

dennis the menace & i finally saw Inglourious Basterds & loved it.

really nice work by Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz & Mélanie Laurent & the costumes designed by (Anna B. Sheppard) were fantastic.

the more ladylike suits, dresses, hats & shoes were obvious attractors, but my favorite costume was the wide-legged trousers & boiled wool jacket worn by actress Mélanie Laurent:

this is what Sheppard has to say about them:
COF: Is Mélanie Laurent wearing men’s period trousers when working outside the cinema?

AS: Melanie’s trousers were a period version of modern dungarees with a detachable bib, which she wore both ways. Again, these were to go against the grain of floral dresses and small patterns that were associated with the period. They were made in Berlin, according to my design.

given the current fit issues with my 1945 trousers project, i would love to get a closer look at those pants to see where the waist & crotch hit.
