one of these was sitting out on the sidewalk this a.m. the 401A with the cabinet. cabinet in good condition, sewing machine - your guess is as good as mine. everything appeared to move, but it was super dirty inside. it was either going to be a "just needs a good cleaning & oiling" situation or it was going to be a "needs a complete overhaul" situation.
then again it was free & i almost doubled-back to get my car so i could take her home with me. until i remembered Miss Burton's tension assembly which is still giving me fits. i decided the smart thing was to take care of Miss Burton before i start hauling more vintage sewing machines home.
i'm emailing steve some pix of my assembly job so he can take a look at what i've done.
